At LocalWonders Travel, our focus is on providing high-quality tours and authentic travel experiences— giving our guests the opportunity to experience Italy like the locals do while never foregoing comfort. We love Italy, and we want you to love Italy too.
On your tour, you’ll have the perfect balance of exciting scheduled activities and free time to explore Italy your own way. And because we travel in small, 10-person groups, our guests have all the freedom to look, learn, and discover the hidden soul of Italy. In a group this small, you’ll be able to see and do more— and make lots of new friends along the way.
You’ll be dicovering Italy’s most delicious cuisine, the best wine, and all the fun and laughter you can handle. Walk charming cobblestone alleys and learn fascinating facts. Why not take a swim at sunset, or feel like a true local at a live music event at the local joint in town? Whatever your preference, we’ve got a tour with something for you.

Your local leader will give you all the tips and support you may need, becoming a passionate and resourceful friend eager to share the innermost secrets of their native land— and introducing you to the places only locals know.

Accommodation
LocalWonders Travel tours include accommodation and we are proud to offer our guests accommodation at some of Italy’s charming hotels. We have painstakingly chosen distinguished locally-run boutique hotels and guesthouses that are high-quality, comfortable and clean – full of character for an authentic Italy experience – but without the rigid formality that comes with “luxury”.
We have personally inspected each of these small 3-Star Superior and 4-Star locations: all of them meet high quality standards. We are confident that you will truly enjoy your stay!
Accommodation arrangements on our tours include a double or twin room with en-suite bathroom for our guests. Single travellers are matched with a fellow traveller of the same sex to share a room. If you’d prefer a single room to enjoy during your trip, you can purchase a “single supplement” (your own room).

Il Guelfo Bianco Boutique Hotel, Florence
In a centrally-located historic building in Florence, this high-quality boutique hotel combines modern art with history, elegance with comfort. You will enjoy the attention of a friendly staff and have the chance to try a truly authentic Italian farm-to-table food experience.
Hotel Alexandra, Rome
Situated on via Veneto, the famous street of the Italian Dolce Vita, this historic hotel is the perfect setting for experiencing the “Rome life” in comfort and style.
Welcome Matera – Accommodation in the Sassi, Matera
The ancient dwellings of Matera, built on the walls of a canyon, have now been turned into elegant and comfortable accommodations. Staying here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, comfortable and wonderful!
Daily City Tax included in the tour costs – no additional charge.
Depending on the hotel and the city, sometimes there’s a city tax added to a room charge (between 1 and 10 Euros per person per night). Our tour costs include this daily city tax.
Extra Nights
Should you wish to add extra nights to your stay here in Italy, either before your LocalWonders tour begins or after your tour has ended, we can help to make those arrangements. Simply select “additional nights” when filling in your Booking Form and we’ll be in touch to finalize the details.
Local leader
A local and professional LocalWonders Travel local leader will accompany you on your trip. The local leader will fulfill the following duties:
- Planning trip details and logistics
You local leader takes all of the hassle and worry out of organizing travel (from trains, tickets, restaurant recommendations, reservations and tips for how to make the most of your free time). Your local leader will be your trusted point of reference throughout the entire trip, making sure that everything goes smoothly. You just focus on having fun!
- Providing authenticity and fun
Get ready for a “like a local” experience. Your local leader will introduce you to the authentic side of Italy, providing interesting (and entertaining) information about the places you are visiting and showing you the best spots, usually only discovered by the locals (including favorite local restaurants).
How We Move
On our tours we generally travel aboard comfortable high-speed trains (sometimes regional trains), or to reach locations that aren’t accessible by train, we use private means. Wherever we’re going, you won’t have to worry about the details – like tickets and departure times. Your local leader will take care of everything.
Train is one of the best and fastest means of transport in Italy (up to 300 km per hour!). Travelling by train gets you to where you’re going quickly, but allows you to relax, have fun, and socialize while you take in the beauty of the Italian landscape.
Travel Insurance
We want our guests to have a truly care-free experience on our tours, and safety and comfort are our main focus. In that sentiment, we require our guests to have travel insurance (medical and repatriation coverage with a liability limit greater than €200,000 or corresponding currency in your country of origin).
Further, while not compulsory, we also highly recommend that our guests’ insurance also covers damages against third parties, property and people, as well as damages stemming from any trip-related events (loss of luggage and personal effects, theft, physical harm or delay).
